About school

Our workshops are designed so that you can attend just one, or put together a selection to form your own course, enabling you to work at your own pace.

In the Classroom
Most of our workshops begin in the classroom, with a welcome, introductions, then a presentation so that you know exactly what you'll be doing on the day and how to set your camera for predictable results, with detailed handouts for you to take home.
After the presentation we'll show you how you use the features of your camera and you'll complete your own 'crib sheet' to supplement your camera manual.
Our tutors are familiar with all the popular makes and models of digital camera, so we'll make sure you know how to use your camera before you begin to take any photographs.
You can find out more about our tutors in your area by visiting your Local page.
Small Groups
You'll be part of a small, friendly group with no more than ten students per tutor and you'll often find you have an assistant to help you out on the day too, so that you have plenty of opportunities to ask for help and advice throughout.
Hands-on Exercises
There will be either one long or two shorter hands-on photography assignments on your workshop, where you have the opportunity to take your own photographs, with the advice and assistance of one of our tutors. Our Masterclasses consist of hands-on photography for most of the day.
Depending upon the workshop, the location for your photography might be out and about in parkland, gardens or cities, or in the classroom or studio.
You can take home copies of your assignments to refine your skills at home - practice makes perfect!
Reviewing your Images
We'll encourage you to review your images on your camera's review screen throughout the day and use your new-found skills to make adjustments to the composition or camera settings to improve your shots as you go.
Later, on most of our workshops, you'll find that there's an opportunity to review your images as a group, using our computer and projector. This is a great way to see for yourself which techniques work well to produce good photographs and, where things haven't worked out the way you had hoped, what you should do next time.
After the Workshop
To get good value for money from your workshop, we suggest that you run through your assigments again at home and make sure that you pick up your camera as often as you can until you're feeling really confident and thoroughly enjoying your photography.
Skill Levels
Our workshops are structure by skill level. To see where you fit in, see Choosing a Workshop.
